Federal grant funds additional parking for Murgon aged care facility
14th April, 2016
Castra Residential Aged Care Facility will receive $14,157 from the federal coalition government to build additional car parking and improved access to its buildings under the Government’s Stronger Communities Programme (SCP), Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss announced today. “Due to limited on-site parking, visitors to Castra often have no option but to park out on the street. This funding will enable Castra to extend the parking within the facility grounds, allowing easier access for family, friends, volunteers and school children who frequently visit residents.
“The project will receive matching funding by the owners of the facility, Southern Cross Care Queensland.
“Castra is well integrated into the local community, regularly holding community functions such as concerts and Christmas parties. The facility provides extensive opportunities for social interaction and strongly encourages community involvement and participation,” Mr Truss said.
The Stronger Communities Programme is a Federal Government initiative designed to increase the resilience of communities, especially those in disadvantaged areas, by providing grants for small capital projects.
Local councils and incorporated not for profit organisations can apply for grants of between $5,000 and $20,000, with up to $150,000 available for each Federal electorate per year. Applications for the second round of the program have recently closed and are now being assessed.
