SKILLS VOUCHERS TO BENEFIT JOB SEEKERS AND WORKERS
“This programme will provide a chance for people in Wide Bay to get the basic skills they need to succeed in their jobs and get a head start in the workplace,” Mr Truss said.
“There are two vouchers available under the Australian Skills Voucher Programme - Work Skills Vouchers and Business Skills Vouchers.”
Mr Truss said, “the Work Skills Voucher valued at up to $3000 provides a fantastic opportunity for people in our region aged 25 years and over who do not have a Year 12 or equivalent qualification to get the basic skills or qualifications they need to progress in their jobs or to get a job.
“Priority will be given to workers wishing to acquire qualifications; followed by income support recipients who will be required to find work within the next two years; job seekers participating in the Job Network and those outside the labour force.”
The Work Skills Vouchers will assist Australians with the costs of studying Year 12 or equivalent courses or vocational and technical education courses at the certificate II level.
The vouchers will improve the basic skills of people who are already in employment to move into higher level positions and assist those who are looking for work to find jobs.
The programme’s Business Skills Vouchers are targeted at Australian Apprentices or newly qualified tradespersons in traditional trades as a contribution towards the costs of undertaking accredited business skills training.
Mr Truss said, “Business Skills Vouchers will benefit both employers and employees. Employers will experience more flexible and adaptive skilled workers. Employees will be provided with the opportunity to undertake specialised business training adding an extra dimension to their skills.”
When fully implemented, 6,300 Business Skills vouchers valued at up to $500 each will be available to Australian Apprentices each year to contribute towards the costs of accredited small business skills training.
“The overarching benefits of the vouchers will be seen for years to come. They will be great for local business and will help to grow our local economy,” Mr Truss said.
The vouchers can be used at public, private or community training providers.
