Funding for Cooloola hospital

8th February, 2007
Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss has announced Australian Government funding of $551,650 towards further improvements at Cooloola Community Private Hospital.

Mr Truss said the funding will go towards the establishment of an integrated radiological, orthopaedic and day surgery facility at the Cooloola Community Private Hospital to allow the provision of the best possible health care to residents of Gympie and the wider community.

The funds are granted through the $36 million Rural Private Access Program.

“The Australian Government is determined to provide the best possible health care for people in rural and regional Australia. Despite the continuing decline in state government hospital and health services, especially here in Queensland, the Australian Government is spending more than ever on health care,” Mr Truss said.

“Total spending on health rose from $20 billion under the Labor Party to over $45 billion under the Coalition Government in 2005/06. All this at the same time as net government debt has fallen from $95.8 billion in 1995/96 under Labor to a surplus of $1.3 billion at present.”

“That is why I am so pleased to announce this funding for the Cooloola Community Private Hospital. It demonstrates what can be achieved through the responsible and successful management of Australia’s economy,” Mr Truss said.

“I congratulate the Cooloola Community Private Hospital for successfully applying for this funding. This is the second major grant for the hospital in the past two years.”

The Rural Private Access Program is part of the Rural Health Strategy, which provides $830 million over four years for health and aged care services and workforce measures.
