Truss welcomes LNP

26th July, 2008
Warren Truss, Federal Leader of the Nationals has welcomed the formation of the Liberal National Party (LNP) in Queensland.

“I would like to pay special tribute to Bruce McIver and Gary Spence for their hard work and leadership in bringing the two parties together. Their efforts, together with those of Lawrence Springborg and Mark McArdle have created a credible new force that Queensland has long waited for.”

“LNP unites the non-Labor political parties in Queensland into one potent force,” Mr Truss said.

“This is a party born of the people. Branch members wanted it. The people in the street wanted it. When a small number of Party hierarchy put obstacles in the way, the people revolted and they got their way.”

“The energy, enthusiasm and vitality that were evident at today’s inaugural Convention of the LNP get the new party off to a great start. That energy and vitality must now be focussed on defeating the ALP and bringing good government back to Queensland.”

“It is a credit to the leadership of the former Liberal and National Parties which has brought about a new era in Queensland politics that will deliver for Queensland families.”
