Robert Drew, Candidate for Lyne
2nd August, 2008
Community campaigner Rob Drew has been pre-selected to represent The Nationals in the Lyne by-election, Leader of The Nationals Warren Truss said today.Mr Drew will run a local campaign on local issues, working to secure local jobs, increase roads and health funding and hold the Rudd Government to account.
Married with two adult children, Mr Drew has a background in small business and local government over 20 years living on the New South Wales Mid North Coast.
“Rob Drew will be a strong local voice for the people of Lyne who will make sure the Rudd Labor Government cannot ignore this area,” Mr Truss said.
“He’s a man of action, not just words. He’s genuine and he brings experience and a strong track record of delivery to the job.
“That track record includes a proud history of community service through local government, charities and service organisations.
“Rob Drew’s credentials mean he has what it takes to represent the people of Lyne in Federal Parliament. He will build on the good work of Mark Vaile and make sure that Lyne gets its fair share of government funding, infrastructure and services.
“And he has the backing of a strong local Nationals team that includes State Parliamentarians Andrew Stoner, John Turner and Melinda Pavey.”
Mr Truss said the by-election provided voters with the opportunity to send a clear message to the Rudd Government to honour its election promises to tackle skyrocketing living costs, fix the health system and govern for all Australians.
“Labor knows it is guilty of breaching their election promises, ignoring pensioners and self funded retirees, and driving business and consumer confidence down, which now threatens local jobs,” Mr Truss said.
“That’s why Labor is reluctant to run a candidate in this by-election. This is a cowardly and sneaky trick and voters should be very careful not to play into Mr Rudd’s hands.
“The only way to send Labor a clear message to lift its game is to send Rob Drew to Canberra. Rob Drew will make sure Labor cannot ignore Lyne or its election promises.”
