Christmas Greetings from Warren Truss
23rd December, 2008
Christmas is a very special time of the year when family and friends are reunited, some travelling long distances, to celebrate in warm and familiar company the year that has been and to plan for the future. For people who have lost loved ones or who are far from home, Christmas can be hard and difficult, yet precious memories of happier times shared together can help to bring them closer.
Christmas is much more than an occasion of trees and lights, gifts and parties. The symbols of Christmas highlight the joyous reason for our festivity.
Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ whose love brought salvation and the message of peace and goodwill to all.
Those who seek to take Christ out of Christmas or Christmas out of the holidays lose the central reason for the celebrations and their special meaning and purpose.
The way in which the Joyous Christmas message reaches out to all in our society depends on our willingness to extend a helping hand and a caring heart.
As we celebrate with family, friends and loved ones, it is important to remember in the true spirit of Christmas the people in our community who are less fortunate - the homeless, the jobless, the sick, and those spending Christmas alone this year - and consider what we might be able to do to comfort those in need.
We remember especially the hardship faced by farming families and their communities who continue to battle against the effects of drought. Their forbearance is incredible and an inspiration to us all.
We live in an area that is popular with interstate and overseas tourists, so there is more traffic on our roads at this time of year. Please pay special attention and be cautious and courteous on the roads this Christmas. Your patience on crowded roads could help to avoid accidents.
Lyn and I extend our very best wishes for a happy Christmas season and a successful 2009. May everyone enjoy the time of giving and sharing with their loved ones, family and friends.
