Labor’s “tax on everything” dead – for now
2nd December, 2009
The Senate today killed off the Rudd Labor Government’s Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme after a strong campaign run for more than a year by The Nationals. “But like a zombie, this CPRS that has been promoted by the high-taxing extremists, the Australian Labor Party, could live again,” said the Leader of The Nationals, Warren Truss.
“The Australian people have spoken on the CPRS in the past few days. They don’t understand it, and those that do don’t like it.
“If the Rudd Government wants to fight an early election on this issue and try to breathe life into this dead dog of a scheme, then The Nationals stand ready to fight.
“Labor is addicted to high taxing schemes that slug those who don’t usually vote for Labor. This CPRS is something extra – it will slug the battlers, the working families, union members, environmentalists and indeed every Australian, no matter who they vote for.
“So far, Mr Rudd and his team have flown under the radar and concentrated on name calling rather than decent policy and trying to explain what this scheme will actually do.
“Well, the time for Labor’s low-flying is over. The Nationals in Coalition will be pointing out every day between now and the next election that Labor wants to turn his country upside down for no environmental gain.
“Every regional town and city is under Labor’s fire. We will be opposing the CPRS and unveiling a suite of genuine and practical measures that will improve the environment and reduce greenhouse emissions.
“The Australian people know you cannot improve the environment by smashing the economy,” Mr Truss said.
