Albo fibs and fibs and fibs on Coalition road promises
26th May, 2010
Only one week after he claimed he had never lied in politics, Transport Minister Anthony Albanese has told a series of complete whoppers across Australia today about the Coalition’s commitment to various road projects. The Shadow Minister for Transport, Warren Truss, said the Coalition would meet its promises on road and rail funding, and they have all been allowed for within planned funding levels.
“Most of the Coalition promises referred to today by Mr Albanese relate, in whole or in part, to funding to flow outside the current forward estimates and under the funding envelope for future AusLink national transport plans,” Mr Truss said.
“One is in my own electorate - the duplication of the Bruce Highway between Cooroy and Curra. Mr Albanese has made no commitment to complete this project, but we believe we can do it by 2020.
“Other projects involve relatively small amounts of money and can easily be funded under the banner of the existing $26 billion transport construction budget. Others still are projects that were begun under the Coalition and will continue under the next Coalition government.
“On return to Government, the Coalition will not feel obligated to honour Labor’s forthcoming election promises but we will honour our own.
“Mr Albanese doesn’t seem to understand his own portfolio, or the basics of budgeting. He is telling gigantic porkies to the people of regional Australia.
“Mr Albanese’s deception deserves wider coverage because of his laughable claims just last Tuesday that he had never told a lie in politics,” Mr Truss said.
