Labor & Greens carbon tax conspiracy now complete
8th November, 2011
“LABOR’S betrayal of the Australian people is now complete,” Leader of the Nationals Warren Truss declared today.“At the behest of the extreme Greens, Australia is going it alone to hang the millstone of the world’s biggest carbon tax around the necks of every business and every family. No other country on Earth is following us – in fact, they are scoffing at our act of economic self-flagellation.
“Bob Brown’s plan to bog down growth and development in this country is now enshrined. His agenda to reduce Australia’s carbon dioxide emissions by closing down Australian industry and destroying jobs is now law.
“But, the Australian people willing, the Coalition will not allow the carbon tax to dog future generations. We have given ironclad notice to all Australians that should the Coalition form the next government we will repeal this destructive tax.
“While Labor Senators were more subdued than their lower house colleagues when the Bills passed, the Greens couldn’t help themselves. The joy of Bob Brown and his small band of minority extremists starkly illustrates this is a case of the tail wagging the dog.
“Despite the Greens having just one seat in the House of Representatives, this Labor government – including the entire caucus – is subservient to the whims of Bob Brown.
“If Julia Gillard had an ounce of conviction, let alone integrity, she would never have bowed to the Greens’ demands for a carbon tax and so shamefully broken her prime ministerial bond with the Australian people.
“Today, that sacred oath is torn asunder. Australians will not forget her barefaced lie that ‘there will be no carbon tax under a government I lead’. That deception is forever burned into the psyche of every Australian.
“The only mandate this government has is to not introduce a carbon tax – that was a key premise for determining how Australians cast their vote last year. The Australian people, and the spirit of our democracy, have been ignored and treated with contempt by Labor.
“The public did not expect this tax, they have been denied the opportunity to vote on it, and today they rue the existence of the Labor Party – a body corrupted by its hunger for power at any price.
“History will damn this government, reserving a special place in its annals for this Prime Minister, condemned by her own words.”
