Truss welcomes WA Nationals’ Tony Crook into federal fold
5th May, 2012
LEADER of The Nationals Warren Truss has welcomed the decision of Member for O’Connor Tony Crook to participate in the activities of the federal Nationals parliamentary party room. Mr Crook will take his position in the Parliament with his Nationals colleagues from Tuesday.“The Western Australia Nationals are a vital part of The Nationals family,” Mr Truss said. “Tony’s decision to enter the party room will ensure he is able to contribute to the development and implementation of outcomes to benefit his constituency.
“Tony sitting on the crossbenches after the last federal election raised a few eyebrows, but we understood what he was about – trying to get the best possible result for his electorate.
“As a new MP in extraordinary circumstances he wanted to find out for himself what was in the best interests of his electorate and the nation.
“After extensive consultation with his constituency and his Nationals WA colleagues, Tony has made a decision that I am certain is in the best interests of his electorate of O’Connor and the nation.
“The carbon tax and mining tax are misguided missiles for regional Australia, especially for the resource rich states like Western Australia. The West is currently the jewel in Australia’s economic crown and the Gillard government’s response is to rip out of it every dollar they can.
“I have no doubt that Tony will make a significant contribution to The Nationals party room and add an extra dimension to our policy development.”
