Coalition rock solid on road project timelines: Truss
26th December, 2012
“AMBIGUOUS media reports today casting doubt over the Coalition’s funding commitments to major roads projects in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane are simply wrong,” Leader of The Nationals and Shadow Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Warren Truss confirmed today.“Tony Abbott and myself are in lock-step on project timelines, including for the WestConnex Road in Sydney within 12 months of a Coalition government taking office and within 18 months for the east-west link in Melbourne.
“We are both determined to get cranes and bulldozers onto construction sites across the country just as soon as possible. Building new infrastructure will play a key role in getting the Australian economy moving again under a Coalition government.
“Our policies are fully costed and budgeted and each of state governments has confirmed that those timeframes meet their construction plans. There are also likely to be private sector funding partners in each of these projects.
“These projects will require detailed funding and planning work before construction begins, but that work will be underway as we have announced.
“There is no difference in the timeframes I outlined to a journalist in an interview over a month ago and those mentioned by Tony Abbott beginning from the date of the election of a Coalition government.
“This is what happens when media outlets try to create a news story from nothing during the Christmas break. It’s just plain wrong.”
