Truss welcomes new Senator to The Nationals’ fold
23rd December, 2013
LEADER of The Nationals Warren Truss today welcomed news that Queensland’s Crime and Misconduct Commission has exonerated Senate nominee Barry O’Sullivan of any wrongdoing.Pre-selected by the LNP in May to fill the Queensland Senate vacancy left by the resignation of Barnaby Joyce, Mr O’Sullivan’s ability to take up his Senate seat had stalled pending an ongoing investigation involving a state electoral matter.
“Today’s finding clears the way for the Queensland Parliament to formally endorse Mr O’Sullivan’s appointment and to see him assume his role as a Senator for Queensland in the New Year,” Mr Truss said.
“Barry O’Sullivan was duly selected by the LNP over six months ago, so today’s news is, at long last, confirmation that he will fill The Nationals’ Senate spot left by Barnaby’s move to the lower house seat of New England.
“While obviously a daunting and drawn-out process, Barry O’Sullivan’s name has been cleared and now he can get on with the job of adding his voice to The Nationals’ party room as an advocate for regional Queensland.
“Barry has a solid record of service to the community and The Nationals are looking forward to him taking his seat with us early in 2014.”
