Wimmera Community Service Centre is now open
13th November, 2014
RESIDENTS of Horsham and nearby regions will now be able to use the newly opened $9.05 million Wimmera Community Service Centre for events, information and access to support services.
Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss said the new centre is an infrastructure asset the community can be proud of.
“The Australian Government is strongly committed to supporting regional development and building strong communities,” Mr Truss said.
“That’s why we are getting on with the job of delivering $314.2 million to almost 300 Community Development Grants projects across Australia, and an additional $1 billion to community projects over the next five years through the National Stronger Regions Fund.”
Federal Member for Mallee Andrew Broad was on site to officially open the Wimmera Community Service Centre today.
“The Centre will give residents access to learning and development facilities and a multi purpose hall for meetings, activities and community events,” Mr Broad said.
“The facility will also boost the health and wellbeing of local residents by providing a recreation space for young people, families and seniors.”
State Member for Lowan Hugh Delahunty said the Centre features a new sensory gallery, the first of its kind in Victoria.
“Apart from providing an iconic facility for people of the region, the Centre will boost the opportunity for improved service delivery and have a flow on effect for the local community and businesses,” Mr Delahunty said.
Wimmera UnitingCare completed the construction of a two storey building as Stage One of the project.
Stages Two and Three of the project were jointly funded, with the Australian Government contributing $3 million, the Victorian Government $2.5 million, Wimmera UnitingCare $300,000, and $250,000 from the Philanthropic Trust.
