Auditor-General reports the Gillard Government gave $185,000 towards the $375,000 cost of a 750 metre bikeway to Byron Shire Council on the promise it would create two short term jobs and two work experience positions. Later the Council claimed that the project created 56 short term jobs but the Auditor found that 30 were existing full time Council employees (The Australian)

The Auditor General reports that none of the $138.6 million spent on Labor's Jobs Plan was allocated to a project in a Priority Employment Area, There was no application process and the 12 projects were hand picked by Minister Albanese. The Government said in April 2009 the projects would create 1000 'immediate jobs' but it was not until August 2010 that any proponent reported that their project had created or retained any job
