LNP Campaign Launch
4th March, 2012
BRISBANE CONVENTION CENTERADDRESS BY WARREN TRUSS MP
FEDERAL LEADER OF THE NATIONALS
Fellow Queenslanders,
Haven't we had enough?
The people of Queensland are rallying to us declaring time's up for bad governments.
After 20 years, it's time for a clean slate and a new state.
Queensland needs a new man at the helm - Campbell Newman.
Across the state, Queenslanders want a new day to dawn.
In the cleansing rays of that much-needed new start, there is nowhere left for Anna Bligh and her incompetent Labor cronies to hide.
In Western Australia, Victoria and New South Wales, the people have passed their judgement and now for Queenslanders it is our time to say that we have had enough.
The whole of the country is aching to have their say. Federal Labor is showing now what happens when Labor is given another chance to change or get things right.
Now is the time to cast judgment on the broken promises, in-fighting, shifty backroom deals, waste and dysfunction like the federal Labor-Greens-Independent alliance.
We get to tee off first!.
By installing a strong LNP government in Queensland we will send a clear and resolute message also to Canberra.
Queenslanders will not sit idly by and let federal Labor chaos destroy the sunshine state.
I grew up in a Queensland that was proud of its achievements and confident of its future. A Coalition Government had taken over after a decade of derelict Labor rule.
Our great Leaders transformed this State, created our modern cities and towns, built new roads, schools, universities, cultural centres and a free hospital system that was the envy of the nation. There were services in country centres as well as the capital. They fostered our modern tourism and mining industries and welcomed investment and innovation.
Ours was the low tax State with no debt and a AAA credit rating. People flocked here to be where it was all happening and to enjoy our lifestyle.
Bit by bit, Labor governments have torn away our advantages. We now have high taxes and by far the biggest state debt in the country - and no plan to pay it back.
Whether it's Brisbane or Canberra, the Labor tale is the same.
Lies have been Labor's stock-and-trade, waste and mismanagement its legacy. Spin but no ability to deliver. Labor could not deliver a Pizza on a moonlit night!
Time's up for Labor!
Is it any surprise that so many Labor candidates in this election want to hide what they really are.
The only red corflutes I have seen belong to some new party that is not even sure of its name. Most of Labor's sitting members don't even want to use their second name in case someone recognises that they are part of this rotten Labor machine. But you cannot vote for Anna or Kate or Kerry without getting another ugly Labor Government.
As the last 18 months in Canberra have proven, playing with Independents or peripheral political parties is also a dangerous game.
It's also a lifeline for Labor.
That's a risk Queenslanders simply cannot afford.
We need to be resolute. No mucking around.
The only way to get rid of this stagnant, incompetent Labor government on March 24 is to vote for your local LNP candidate.
Campbell Newman and the LNP CAN DO! They can rebuild Queensland as our great leaders had to do in the past. We can be proud of Queensland again and lead the recovery of our Nation.
This election is about the future and the things that matter to people.
* Better and safer roads. Infrastructure that takes families to where they need to go safely and that takes Queensland's commodities, goods and services efficiently across the state and to the world.
* A 21st century health system. Dedicated doctors and nurses who get paid on time and are not badly let down by a bureaucratic hospital system.
* Being serious about crime and taking a tough line with criminals who threaten our free and open lifestyle and flout community standards of decency and the hard work of decent people.
* Lifting the education standards of our schools, which trail other states in so many areas but have such a vital role in training tomorrow's leaders and future generations of Queenslanders.
* Winding back the mounting cost of living pressures on families which are set to get worse under the world's biggest carbon tax, which will ramp up every year.
The continuous hit to the daily lives of Queenslanders is relentless. Groceries, electricity, gas... you name it, you'll pay more for it and then pay again.
And our industry and jobs are at risk because they cannot be competitive with the rest of the world that does not have such a tax.
So, in Queensland, we need a strong voice that will stand up to Canberra's carbon tax and fight it with Tony, me and our team.
Labor is not listening. They think it's all about them and their factional warlords.
Time's up!
This election is about Queensland achieving its full potential, and providing Queenslanders with better opportunities and higher living standards.
It's about more jobs, and better jobs and the ability to create new industry and opportunity.
It's about a promise to the next generation for a Queensland better than it is under Labor.
That change... that new day... starts today!
Queensland... Beautiful one day... But is has not been perfect the next any time lately.
But under the Newman LNP, it will be better tomorrow!
At the Liberal-National Party we are focussed on the future.
I look forward to the day when the LNP and the federal Coalition are both working together in government for the benefit of Queenslanders and all Australians.
Our federal Coalition is positive, energised and determined and under Tony Abbott we have a plan to restore and rebuild our country.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great pleasure to introduce my friend and colleague, the next Prime Minister, The Honourable Tony Abbott.
